Liverpool beat Everton 1-0 in remarkable circumstances earlier today, with Divock Origi scoring a winner that almost certainly couldn’t be replicated.

The Reds went into the game having been beaten 2-1 by Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, and were looking to hit back with a big win over their bitter Merseyside rivals.

Liverpool didn’t exactly impress though, and looked below par as Everton were in control for long stretches of the game at Goodison Park, with the game petering out into a 0-0 draw.

However, Virgil van Dijk sent a wayward shot up into the air in the 96th minute, and Jordan Pickford couldn’t grasp the ball, leading to the ball hitting the bar and falling to Divock Origi to head home a dramatic, unlikely winner.

Everton will be gutted to have gone home empty-handed having played so well, whilst Liverpool will see it as two points gained having basically resigned themselves to a draw when Van Dijk’s shot went up into the air.

After the game, pundit Jamie Carragher took to Twitter to suggest that two Liverpool players really impressed him, with summer signings Alisson and Fabinho catching his eye.

Carragher noted that it was Everton’s best performance at Anfield in over 20 years, and urged the club to sign Barcelona-owned midfielder Andre Gomes permanently after he excelled against Liverpool.
