Jamie Carragher has told Monday Night Football, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 29th October, that he believes Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli isn’t as good as Ross Barkley.

Chelsea midfielder Barkley has shone in recent weeks, and has netted three goals in his last three matches.

Alli, meanwhile, has missed much of this season for Spurs with injury and even when he has been fit he hasn’t been at the top of his game.

And Carragher feels that Barkley has more ability than his Spurs counterpart.

“This lad [Barkley] has got to become mentally stronger, but in terms of actually ability, you look at players who played at the World Cup in those positions – Dele Alli and Jesse Lingard – they might be better mentally, but they are not better ability wise. I think he could become a must for the England team,” Carragher said.

Spurs actually turned down their chance to sign Barkley as Mauricio Pochettino felt he could bring in better than the England international, as reported by the London Evening Standard.

Spurs have to failed to do so though, and under Maurizio Sarri Barkley has been in wonderful form.

Alli came on as a substitute for Tottenham last night in their match against Manchester City, but he was unable to rescue a point for his side.

Spurs missed a some great opportunities, but ultimately fell to a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City.
