Jamie Carragher has blasted Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier for his actions against Manchester City on Monday Night Football, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 29th October.

Trippier was at fault for the goal Tottenham conceded in the contest, as he failed to deal with a cross-field ball.

The England international’s weak header back allowed Raheem Sterling to go clean through, and then when he did get back, he failed to make a challenge on the City winger.

Sterling simply danced past him before squaring the ball for Riyad Mahrez to tap in.

Trippier could be seen arguing with Spurs stopper Hugo Lloris after the goal went in.

But Carragher wanted to see Trippier, who is on a £45,000-a-week contract (Daily Express) take more responsibility for his error. He said: “I don’t like that. If you make a mistake, hold your hands up. That’s nothing to do with the goalkeeper.”

The goal ended up separating the two sides, after what was an entertaining contest in general.

Spurs gave City plenty of problems, but just could not convert any of their chances, with Erik Lamela missing a particularly good opportunity to snatch a point late on.
