Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has struggled for form for Rafael Benitez’s side this season.

Shelvey has struggled at Newcastle this term, and has even been linked with a move away from Tyneside in recent weeks.
However, he was brought on as a substitute in Newcastle’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United last night.
And Carragher has suggested that although Shelvey is Rafael Benitez’s side’s best passer, he needs to sharpen up defensively.
“There’s no doubt technically Shelvey is possibly the best player at the club, certainly passing wise. But he can switch off defensively,” Carragher admitted.
Shelvey was unable to help Newcastle win yesterday, and was actually lucky to stay on the field.

The 26-year-old could have been sent off after snapping into a high tackle on Paul Pogba.
Shelvey’s Newcastle side actually put in a good performance against Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s men, but they were unable to convert any of their chances.
Newcastle are still in 15th place in the Prmeier League table, but now only have two points between them and the drop zone.
