Manchester City are free to compete in the Champions League over the next two seasons after CAS overturned the ban enforced by UEFA in February.

Jamie Carragher was discussing the point on Sky Sports and a clip of him speaking was tweeted out by an account called ‘Man City Report’.

The Citizens fans were mocking Carragher, saying he hadn’t taken the decision well, but he hit back and certainly did not hold back on Twitter.

Carragher openly mocked City’s European record and failure to so much as reach a final despite nine years in the competition now.

Moreover, he said that in the context of the full video, he was actually defending Pep Guardiola’s men.

The Champions League is a sore point for City because a side of their wealth and quality should have done better in the competition than they have.

Guardiola has spoken about a mental block in the past; almost the challenge of getting his side to believe they belong in that company and can beat the very best sides in Europe.

They’ve got a huge opportunity to win it this year, with the reduced nature of the competition making it a series of one-off games at a neutral venue.
