Jamie Carragher has taken to Twitter to mock Gary Neville after Manchester United’s defeat to Manchester City last night.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against their arch rivals in the Carabao Cup semi-final, thanks to goals from John Stones and Fernandinho.
After full-time, Carragher posted a photo of Neville drinking some wine with the caption: ‘Joint semi finalists!’
Now, for those of you who don’t understand Carragher’s jibe, let us offer you some context.
Recently, Manchester United have been sat level on 33 points with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

That has led to Neville tweeting multiple times that the Red Devils are ‘joint top’.
In reality, they’re still second as Jurgen Klopp’s men lead the way on goal difference.
The silliness of Neville’s ‘joint top’ claims have now come back to bite him, as Carragher’s tweet perfectly sums up how foolish that phrase is.
Liverpool welcome Manchester United to Anfield on January 17th, where the two Sky Sports pundits see their sides go head-to-head.

At that point, Solskjaer’s side could even be top of the Premier League.
Manchester United are still level on points with Liverpool after Klopp’s men lost to Southampton.
However, they have a game in hand over the Reds, which comes against Burnley on Tuesday – certainly a winnable game, with all due respect to Sean Dyche’s side.
