Liverpool boosted their hopes of sneaking into the top four by beating Manchester United on Thursday – and Jamie Carragher loved it.

The Reds fell behind to a Bruno Fernandes opener, but roared back as Diogo Jota equalised before a Roberto Firmino brace.

Marcus Rashford threatened to bring United back into the game, but Liverpool sealed the win when Mohamed Salah raced clear to slot home, making it 4-2.

Liverpool are now just four points behind Chelsea and six points behind Leicester whilst having a game in hand on both teams.

A top four finish is back on the radar for Liverpool, and Carragher just couldn’t resist a little pop at Gary Neville.

Neville somewhat mocked Liverpool back in January, tweeting that football on a Thursday isn’t all that bad after the Reds lost 1-0 at home to Burnley.

Carragher managed to dig up that tweet and mock Neville by saying ‘there’s always a tweet!’ showing him up, as his comments about football on a Thursday night came back to bite him and United.

If Liverpool can’t sneak into the top four, then they may well have to play regularly on Thursdays in the Europa League, something United fans have been quick to point out.

Yet after a win at Old Trafford, who cares about that right now? Liverpool fans have some bragging rights, and Carragher no doubt loved getting involved whilst showing up his Sky Sports colleague.
