Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports that he doesn’t think Liverpool will sign an expensive central defender in the summer, with Ozan Kabak’s move more likely to be made permanent.
Liverpool have brought in Kabak and Ben Davies to tighten up their defence this month.
However, recent reports have suggested that Liverpool could still spend big on a central defender at the end of the summer.
Both the Reds’ additions this month were relatively cheap, as they searched for emergency solutions to their defensive crisis.
But Carragher thinks that Liverpool may not inject any more money into solving the problem at the back in future, especially if Kabak performs well.
“I don’t know too much about either of these players. But one is for half a million from Preston and the other one is on loan. I think that shows the difficulties Liverpool, and maybe other clubs will find out, are finding it financially,” he explained.
“It just shows where one of the biggest or richest clubs in the world are at financially. With the fact that they couldn’t go and buy, I wouldn’t claim a proper centre-back, but not like the one I was talking about.
“Maybe in the summer but I’m not sure about that to be honest.
“I think if Kabak does well, they can buy him for £18 million, and that’ll be Liverpool done at centre-back.”

Liverpool have been linked with the likes of Dayot Upamecano, David Alaba and Merih Demiral heading into the summer, with the trio all far more experienced that the Reds’ latest recruits.
If Liverpool now don’t spend big in the summer that could be a disappointment to their supporters, even if Kabak and Davies perform well.
Although the Reds do now have numbers at the back, there is a feeling that Jurgen Klopp’s side could really do with another leader in defence.
Liverpool have struggled at the back this season, and it remains to be seen just how quickly Davies and Kabak will be introduced into Klopp’s starting line-up.
