Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has stated that the one derby he would have ‘loved’ to have played in is the one between Celtic and Rangers, as he told the Overlap channel.
The Sky pundit was doing a number of quick-fire questions with Gary Neville, as he didn’t hesitate to name the Glasgow derby between Celtic and Rangers.
During Carragher’s career, where he was a one club man, he was only used to Liverpool and Everton locking horns in the Merseyside derby.
Whilst it’s not a derby, he would have also been part of a more fierce and hotly-contested game against Manchester United.
Nonetheless, this is what Carragher said when Neville asked him this forthcoming quick-fire question.
“What derby would you have loved to have played in,” Neville asked Carrragher.
The ex-Liverpool defender responded by saying: “The Glasgow derby.”
He also added about Scottish managers: “I have a theory about Scottish managers being amazing, so Ferguson, Matt Busby, Shankly and Jock Stein.
“I think there is something in the Scottish voice that you like listening to it and it scares people. There is something about when they speak, you listen.”
It could be argued that the Old Firm derby is the biggest in Britain and probably one of the biggest across the world.
Given that Scottish football doesn’t have the bright lights and big-money of the Premier League, then the Glasgow derby probably doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.
But given that one of Carragher’s best mates, Steven Gerrard, is in the Ibrox dugout then he would have, no doubt, been pretty happy to see him lift the Premiership title with Rangers last season.
It will be interesting to see how Gerrard continues to fare in Scotland and whether that road will lead him back home.
