Liverpool play host to Everton at Anfield on Sunday.

Jamie Carragher spoke to reporters ahead of Sunday’s Merseyside Derby, and shared what he told Xherdan Shaqiri in the build-up to Liverpool vs Everton, as quoted by the Express.

The Reds have made a fine start to their Premier League campaign, taking 33 points from their opening 13 league outings, and they remain unbeaten, sitting in second spot in the table.

The Toffees, meanwhile, sit in sixth position in the table, five points adrift of fifth placed Arsenal, and they seem to be in great shape to secure a top six finish this season.

Whilst Liverpool head into the game as red hot favourites, derby games are well-renowned for producing strange results, and Everton will fancy their chances of causing an upset at Anfield.

Carragher will be hoping that is not the case, however.

The Liverpool legend told the Express how he warned Shaqiri that Liverpool must win against Everton:

Xherdan Shaqiri of Liverpool prepares to take a corner kick during the Group C match of the UEFA Champions League between Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool at Parc des Princes on November...

“I pulled Shaqiri on the way out in the mixed zone in Paris. He came over and said: ‘Hello.’ I said to him: ‘It’s the derby on Sunday and you have to win, you have to win.’ He said: ‘I know.’”

Everton have not beaten Liverpool for over eight years, and Marco Silva will be desperate to bring an end to that barren run at Anfield on Sunday.

Jürgen Klopp will be equally keen for his side to pick up all three points, however, and there should be an enthralling game of football on display at Anfield on Sunday.
