Jamie Carragher has hailed Jacob Ramsey by backing the Aston Villa midfielder to become ‘top class’ in the coming years.
Villa have a number of promising talents emerging through their ranks.
Cameron Archer is knocking on the door for first-team opportunities after shining on loan at Preston North End whilst Kaine Kesler Hayden and Jaden Philogene-Bidace are currently out on loan.
The real big hope is Jacob Ramsey though, with the midfielder taking on the mantle as Villa’s homegrown star following Jack Grealish’s exit.

Jamie Carragher has hailed Jacob Ramsey
Ramsey has been on the Villa books since 2007 having joined the club at the age of just six.
The path from childhood signing to first-team star is a long one; one that few players make with great success.
Ramsey has mastered that path though, aided by a superb 2020 loan spell with Doncaster Rovers.
Now 21, Ramsey is pretty much a fixture of Villa’s starting XI; he has started all but one of Villa’s seven Premier League games this season.
Six goals in all competitions last term was a decent return from Ramsey and Villa will be looking for even more from him going forward.
If Ramsey could pick anybody to learn from in terms of being a box-to-box, goalscoring midfielder then there are few better than Villa boss Steven Gerrard.
There are real hopes that Gerrard can turn Ramsey into a superstar at Villa and maybe even an England international.
After all, Ramsey has been a constant in the England youth setups, featuring for the Under-18’s, Under-19’s, Under-20’s and Under-21’s.
Some even want Ramsey in the England squad right now, which would feel a little rushed ahead of the World Cup later this year.
Pundit Jamie Carragher has joined the discussion about Ramsey, suggesting that he just doesn’t get into the England side right now.
However, Carragher predicts that Ramsey will become ‘top class’ in the future if he continues developing at Villa.
Carragher will have strong belief in his old teammate Gerrard to get the best out of Ramsey, and it could be the perfect learning experience for both clubs and country.
