Jamie Carragher thinks Tottenham are missing a superstar player, like Gareth Bale.
Pundit Jamie Carragher has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Tottenham are a superstar away from becoming ‘the real deal’.
Spurs head to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City this evening, and head into the game in blistering form having won six Premier League games in a row.
Hull City, Burnley, Watford, Southampton, Chelsea and most recently West Brom have all been swatted aside by Spurs, with the latter on the receiving end of a 4-0 defeat at White Hart Lane last weekend.
Tottenham players celebrate
With 19 goals scored and just three conceded in this superb winning run, Tottenham have emerged as the main contenders to Chelsea in the race for the Premier League title, and they will now be looking to pile on the misery for Pep Guardiola tonight.
City were beaten 4-0 by Everton last weekend, and not only lost 2-0 away at Spurs earlier this season, but also lost 2-1 to Mauricio Pochettino’s men at the Etihad Stadium last season.
Jamie Carragher
Another win away at City would only cement Tottenham’s position as a major contender for the Premier League title, and pundit Jamie Carragher has discussed their quality ahead of this evening’s game.
Carragher, speaking to the Daily Mail, suggested that Tottenham don’t really lack anything in any particular position, but are missing a superstar like Eden Hazard, Alexis Sanchez or ex-Spurs hero Gareth Bale.
Carragher noted that Spurs would be the ‘real deal’ with one real superstar player, but thinks they aren’t far away from that right now anyway – unlike Arsenal, who are always talked about in terms of what they lack.
“At the end of every season, we always turn the focus on Arsenal and ask what they lack,” said Carragher. “We will say they need a new striker, a central defender or a midfielder. You can’t say that about this group at Tottenham.”
“All they are missing is a superstar such as Eden Hazard, Alexis Sanchez — or having Gareth Bale still at the club. Then they would be the real deal. They are not, however, far away from becoming just that,” he added.
