Liverpool need to sign a defensive midfielder, suggests Jamie Carragher.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher suggested that Liverpool need to sign a defensive midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window.
The Reds have been busy this summer, bringing seven new players to Anfield so far.
There has been a concerted effort to improve the defence with Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip both arriving.
However, questions still remain, with the win over Arsenal and Saturday’s defeat to Burnley in the Premier League both indicating that the Reds still have major problems defensively.

While the focus is on both the goalkeeper and left-back positions, Carragher has instead suggested that it is a defensive midfielder that the side is lacking.
“It still looks like they are lacking defensively and even in the holding midfield position,” he told Sky Sports.
“Jordan Henderson is not a defensive midfield player and Emre Can is the only one in the squad that does play there because it looks like Lucas is surplus to requirements.”

It will certainly be interesting to see if Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp makes late moves in the summer transfer window to solve his side’s clear defensive issues.
Klopp has largely focused his spending on improving at the other end of the pitch this summer with the signings of Georginio Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane from Newcastle United and Southampton respectively.
Having brought in close to £30 million with the sale of Christian Benteke to Crystal Palace, as reported by BBC Sport, perhaps now is the time for the Liverpool boss to go out and spend big on defensive recruits.
