Newcastle United striker Joselu has arrived from Stoke City this summer.

Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports, during their live coverage of Newcastle United’s match against Chelsea, that the Magpies’ team still looks more suited to the Championship than the Premier League.

Newcastle have lost their first two matches since promotion, against Tottenham Hotspur and Huddersfield Town.

And Carragher has his doubts over Newcastle’s transfer business, with their latest addition, Joselu from Stoke City causing some concern.

“What Rafa Benitez did when Newcastle went down was get rid of the big names and bring in players who would get them out of the Championship but weren’t really Premier League performers. He’s still got that Championship team really,” the former Liverpool defender said.

“You’d expect more from Newcastle in terms of transfers. Joselu coming off the bench, he didn’t really do it for Stoke – that’s where the negativity comes from. For Huddersfield this is a dream.”

Joselu struggled to make much of an impact during his time with Stoke, and was loaned out to Deportivo La Coruna last season.

The Spaniard did have some success in La Liga, but he has a lot to prove at Newcastle.

Joselu made his debut for the Magpies yesterday, and actually made an impact against Huddersfield, but he was not able to stop Benitez’s falling to another defeat.

Newcastle are now under pressure to start finding the winning formula soon, otherwise they could already be playing catch up in the battle against the drop.

Newcastle are next in action at the weekend, when they take on West Ham United, who have also struggled in their first two Premier League matches of the new campaign.
