Pundit Jamie Carragher feels that Bryan Gil ‘looked like a boy’ as Tottenham Hotspur secured a 3-3 draw away at Manchester City.

Manchester City’s power was simply too much for Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil to deal with on Sunday afternoon.

That is the verdict of pundit Jamie Carragher, who has been speaking to Sky Sports after Tottenham’s 3-3 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

Tottenham took an early lead against City with Son Heung-min opening the scoring before inadvertently scoring an own goal.

Spurs then came from behind – twice – to eventually claim a 3-3 draw and go back to North London with a point.

The first Tottenham goal came from a sweeping counter-attack, started off with some fine footwork from Bryan Gil on the edge of his own box.

The Spaniard is looking to make an impact having finally landed a starting role, albeit due to some injuries.

Gil struggled for the rest of the first half though and was unsurprisingly substituted in favour of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at half time.

That change helped Tottenham get a foothold in the game after the break and Carragher thinks he knows why Ange Postecoglou made that switch.

Carragher has told Sky Sports that he thinks City’s ‘power and strength’ really stood out in the first half.

The ex-Liverpool defender feels that Gil was ‘fantastic’ for the first Tottenham goal but that City just had too much power for him.

Spurs hooked the lightweight Gil for the experienced and combative Højbjerg, a change which Carragher seemingly supported.

“The power and strength of Manchester City really stood out for me and I think that’s why Spurs made that change at half-time in terms of Hojbjerg coming on and Gil comes off the pitch,” said Carragher. “He just looked like a boy playing in a man’s game. Even though he was fantastic for the goal, there was just too much power in that first-half for him,” he added.

Gil clearly has technical ability in his locker but the criticism throughout his time at Tottenham has been that he is too lightweight.

The 22-year-old just hasn’t been able to make an impact in English football and the physical side of the game seems to be holding him back.

A battle with Kyle Walker was never going to end well and Gil may well find himself back on the bench in upcoming games with the former Sevilla man still seeming a little lightweight for consistent Premier League action.
