Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports that there were promising signs between Liverpool centre backs Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip in the win over Chelsea.
The Reds travelled to Stamford Bridge on Friday evening to take on Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side.
It proved to be a happy evening for them as goals from Lovren and Jordan Henderson saw them secure a 2-1 victory.
The key to the win was the defensive display they put in as they kept the likes of Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Willian at bay for much of the game.

Given that the defence has been an issue again this year, that defensive performance is arguably what will have pleased Jurgen Klopp most about the win and Carragher was certainly impressed, especially with the two centre backs.
“I think there is promising signs with the two centre-backs,” he told Sky Sports.
“They looked very solid at Tottenham and solid again tonight [against Chelsea]. I think there is signs there of a partnership and long may that continue.”

This result will likely have convinced many that the Reds could be title contenders this season.
They are currently fourth in the table with ten points from their first five games after the win at Stamford Bridge.
They must now focus on finding their consistency and winning the games they are expected to, starting with Hull City at Anfield next weekend.
