Jamie Carragher has hailed Eddie Howe after Newcastle United beat Chelsea 1-0 on Saturday evening thanks to Joe Willock’s winner.
The Magpies were hoping for another positive result to continue their outstanding run of form.
After failing to make the breakthrough in the first half, Newcastle hit the front after the break as Willock powered a finish past Edouard Mendy.
Newcastle saw the game out masterfully with their mean defence again picking up a clean sheet to secure all three points.

Jamie Carragher has hailed Eddie Howe
That’s now five wins in a row for Newcastle and seven wins in the last eight Premier League games.
21 goals scored and four goals conceded in that run is pretty incredible stuff and Newcastle are going places very quickly.
Even Newcastle fans can’t have expected to be sitting third at Christmas this early into their post-takeover project.
The key has been manager Howe, who has rebuilt his reputation after suffering relegation with Bournemouth in 2020.
Newcastle are pressing ferociously under Howe, look strong at the back and he has rejuvenated previously mocked players like Joelinton and Miguel Almiron.
A top four finish is no sure thing this season but Newcastle have at least catapulted themselves into the conversation.
Howe deserves enormous credit for his work and he has now been praised by pundit Jamie Carragher.
The former Liverpool defender took to Twitter to claim that Howe is getting more out of his players than any other manager in the Premier League.
Carragher also couldn’t believe how bad Chelsea were considering the money they spent over the summer, but that’s not to take anything away from Howe.
Carragher even claimed that Newcastle were playing like Atletico Madrid in the dying stages of the game, doing anything to see the game out in a fashion Diego Simeone would have been proud of – and it’s an edge that maybe Howe’s Bournemouth didn’t have at times, showing his development as a coach and in-game manager.
