Pundit Jamie Carragher has slammed Junior Firpo for his defending during Leeds United’s 6-1 home defeat at the hands of Liverpool.
The former Liverpool defender couldn’t believe what he was seeing from Firpo during the Reds’ first goal.
Trent Alexander-Arnold went on a marauding run forward with Firpo seemingly trying to knock the ball past him to get Leeds on the attack.
The ball hit Alexander-Arnold on the arm but play went on as Firpo appealed for handball.
Alexander-Arnold seized possession and went on to cross for Cody Gakpo to score.
Whilst Leeds had a genuine grievance over the handball, Carragher wasn’t at all impressed with Firpo’s defending.
Speaking on Sky Sports (17/04, 10pm), Carragher fumed about Firpo and suggested that Leeds should look at his performance rather than focus on the handball.
“They make big mistakes every time you see them play,” said Carragher. “There was obviously talk with the first goal whether it was handball, possibly they have a case there, but what Firpo does, that’s what Leeds should be looking at. Don’t be complaining about handball, look at what he is doing!” he added.

Junior Firpo questions remain as Leeds United fears rise
Firpo was supposed to be the long-term solution at left back for Leeds.
Signed for €15million (£13million) in 2021, Firpo had failed to live up to his billing at Barcelona and was hoping to get back on track at Leeds.
That just hasn’t happened as Firpo is yet to convince in almost two years at Elland Road.
Firpo has never really looked settled defensively in the Premier League and has been caught out time and time again.
Monday’s display was par for the course when it comes to Firpo really, and there is a reason why Leeds have been linked with other left backs.
Milos Kerkez and Kai Wagner spring to mind, with Leeds seemingly not totally convinced by Firpo.
We wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Firpo head back to Spain this summer – whether Leeds stay up or not.
