Tottenham Hotspur are currently in second place this season, and are still yet to win any silverware under Mauricio Pochettino.

Jamie Carragher has told Monday Night Football, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 1st May, that Tottenham Hotspur have been extremely unlucky over the last two seasons.

Spurs have accumulated more points than any other Premier League side since the start of the 2015/16 campaign.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been unable to deliver any silverware yet.

Spurs were beaten to the title by Leicester City last season, and they look set to miss out to Chelsea this time around.

Tottenham are currently four points behind Antonio Conte’s side with just four matches to go.

And Carragher has suggested that Tottenham have been highly unlucky, due to the fact their main rivals for the title have not had any European football to distract themselves with.

“Where I think they’ve been very unlucky is that Leicester won the league, we all loved it, but it was a freak, a one off. You don’t see that happen, but it was a team not playing in Europe,” Carragher said.

“They’re now up against a Chelsea team who again have no European commitments… how often do Chelsea not play in Europe? It doesn’t happen.

“A team that wins 13 consecutive games to match the Premier League record, how often does that happen? That’s what they’re up against.

“I think if Chelsea had been in Europe, I think there’s a great chance we’d be here with four games to go saying this could be be Spurs’ first title since 1961.

“That’s how good they are. If Chelsea had played more games, maybe they’d have had a few more injuries, and wouldn’t have been able to play the same team, week in week out, but I think they may have just done it.”

Tottenham, meanwhile, have had European football to contend with while challenging for the Premier League title.

Spurs were in the Europa League last term, and they had Champions League football for the first few months of this season.

Tottenham could still win the title this season, but they would need Chelsea to collapse in their final four league fixtures of the campaign.
