Tottenham Hotspur are set to move to Wembley for next season.
Jamie Carragher has told Monday Night Football, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 9th May, that Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium switch could come at exactly the wrong time for the North London club.
Spurs are set to move out of White Hart Lane at the end of the campaign, with Wembley their temporary home for next season.
And Carragher believes that although the stadium change was necessary, it could have an adverse impact on Spurs’ form.
“I think it’ll be tough. I think if you look at any team moving stadium. Arsenal, West Ham this season – it may be until Christmas until you feel that you’re at home,” the Liverpool legend said.
“There’s talk that they will make the pitch at Wembley the same size at White Hart Lane which would be a good move.
“I said this months ago that the stadium could be brilliant for Tottenham – it could take them to another level. But you wish the stadium was getting built while they had a poor team. They now have the best team we’ve seen in a long time. You just think the timing is wrong.”
Spurs played all their European home games this season at Wembley, but their record is not good.
Tottenham won just one of the four Champions League and Europa League matches they played at the national stadium this term, and also lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final.
Tottenham, meanwhile, have the best home record in the entirety of the Premier League when playing at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham have won 16 of their 18 home league matches, and are yet to be beaten in front of their own supporters.
