Sunderland are said to be of interest to MSD group, with a takeover bid now very close to going through.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have supposedly been up for sale for years now without finding a buyer.
And Carragher believes that Mike Ashley’s asking price for Newcastle is putting potential buyers off, if Sunderland can find such a rich potential backer.
He said: “When you read about Sunderland on the verge of receiving investment from a consortium led by the world’s 25th wealthiest man, you have to ask why similar bids do not materialise at Newcastle? The accusation Ashley is setting an unrealistic price has merit.”
If Sunderland are taken over by MSD it would be a major boost to them, as they aim for promotion from League One.

Sunderland woud still be restricted by Financial Fair Play, but they would surely still have one of the biggest budgets outside of the Premier League.
Newcastle fans, meanwhile, continue to largely want Ashley out – but there does not appear to be any takeover bid nearing competition.
