Jamie Carragher has told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, which was broadcast on 21st November, that Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli would be getting slated if he was an Arsenal player.

Tottenham attacking midfielder Alli was anonymous, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side lost 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend.

And although Alli received some criticism, Carragher believes that the Spurs man got off lightly.

“Until we start treating Tottenham like Arsenal, that’s when they’ll have overtaken him,” Carragher said. “If Mesut Ozil had performed how Dele Alli did in that game, we’d be slaughtering him. There’s no bigger fan of Spurs than me. I’m desperate for them to win. But we don’t treat them how we treat some of the other big players.”

Alli is normally a key creative figure for Tottenham, but the England international struggled to influence the game against Arsenal.

Alli may have been struggling for fitness, but he was miles off the pace – as Spurs failed to beat their north London rivals.

Tottenham wanted to confirm their superiority by beating Arsenal at the weekend, but the defeat has seen questions asked of Pochettino’s side.

Spurs are now just one point clear of the Gunners, with the pressure on the Lilywhites to show a much improved performance when they return to Premier League action.

Tottenham are next in action when they take on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League this evening.
