Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports during their live coverage of Arsenal’s draw against Manchester United on Saturday that it’s not working for Nicolas Pepe.

Arsenal were hit with a number of injuries yesterday, which forced Mikel Arteta to make a number of changes to his side.

Following Pepe’s goal at Southampton in midweek, he started the showdown with Manchester United but failed to get on the scoresheet.

After the game, Carragher shared that it just hasn’t been working with the big-money 2019 signing.

“You actually think of last season and where they got the success from,” said Carragher. “It was from being really organised like they were today and having that X-factor on the counter-attack.

“You just look at their front three today. Pepe, it’s just not quite happened for him since he has come into the club.

“You just think how much they miss Saka and Aubameyang, of course. It makes a huge difference.

“And you think about those two, who have been playing today, and if those chances fell to them then you think they would have taken one. That’s the difference in quality they are missing.”

Whilst Pepe didn’t get on the scoresheet yesterday, he did in midweek and his performances have started to pick up.

The 25-year-old is getting on the ball and putting opposition players on the back foot rather than getting the ball stuck under his feet and not really threatening the final third.

But it’s consistency which the Arsenal fans are looking for and if he can add that to his game then it will elevate Arteta’s improving attack.
