Jamie Carragher has criticised Liverpool after the club had another bid rejected for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

Liverpool have failed with another offer for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia with James Carragher far from impressed.

The Reds are in the market for another holding midfielder having seen Fabinho and Jordan Henderson head to Saudi Arabia.

The top target is Lavia, who only joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer in search of first-team football.

Lavia impressed despite Southampton’s relegation and has been targeted by some of the top Premier League clubs this summer.

Liverpool had two bids rejected for Lavia but have come back in with a third in the hope of finally getting the deal done.

Well, it hasn’t gone to plan.

Paul Joyce of The Times reports that Liverpool’s third offer – worth £45million including add-ons – has been rejected by Southampton.

The Reds must now go away and decide whether to make a fourth bid but the situation is really frustrating supporters.

Jamie Carragher criticises Liverpool after Romeo Lavia bid

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has now taken to Twitter to slate the Reds for their Lavia pursuit.

Carragher has slammed Liverpool for an ‘embarrassing’ approach, highlighting that the club usually get deals done quickly and without much drama.

That certainly isn’t the case with Lavia, which seems to be playing out publicly and is becoming very drawn out.

Carragher believes that Liverpool should just pay the £50million Southampton want for Lavia if they really want him, rather than their current approach of increasing bids gradually.

Carragher also stated that he isn’t sure why Liverpool aren’t going for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The Ecuadorian is wanted by Chelsea this summer but the price could be similar to Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal – around twice the price of Lavia.

Carragher highlighted ‘big money’ coming on for Fabinho and Jordan Henderson and thinks the Reds should now splash the cash on Caicedo rather than messing about over Lavia.
