Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has praised Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott for his performance against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in London in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The former Liverpool player has said on Sky Sports Football (6:25pm, August 13, 2023) that Harvey Elliott was “fantastic” after coming on as a substitute against Chelsea.
Liverpool have played out a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in London.
Luis Diaz scored for the Reds on 18 minutes.
The Blues restored parity through Axel Disasi in the 37th minute.
Elliott did not start the match.
Praise for Harvey Elliott for Liverpool vs Chelsea
The 20-year-old midfielder came on as a substitute in the 77th minute.
And the England Under-21 international’s performance impressed former Liverpool player and Sky Sports pundit Carragher.
Carragher said: “Harvey Elliott has made a big impact on this game since he has come on. He has been fantastic.”
Harvey Elliott was not on the pitch for long, but, as Jamie Carragher has noted, the youngster did do well for Liverpool against Chelsea.
The midfielder was a bright spark and brought Liverpool back into the contest.
While Jurgen Klopp’s side played well in the first half, Chelsea did get the better of them for most of the second period.
Elliott added energy to the Liverpool team late in the match and had a few decent moments.
It will be interesting to see how many starts Elliott makes for Liverpool in the coming weeks and months.
Given that the Englishman is only 20, there is no urgency for him to play week in and week out.
But, if Elliott does well as a substitute in the upcoming matches, then Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will have to seriously consider starting him.
