The Arsenal defender scored an own goal as the Gunners played out a 5-5 draw in the EFL Cup before losing on penalties.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has issued a brutal verdict on Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi, deeming his Premier League days “gone” and believing the Gunners should offload him at the first opportunity (Sky Sports News).
The centre-half, making just his fifth appearance of the season in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side, put through his own net to give Liverpool an early lead in their League Cup contest at Anfield last night.
Mustafi is yet to feature in a Premier League game for Arsenal this season, the Gunners boss only utilising him in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup, and Carragher believes that his error-prone showings are affecting his teammates too.
“Those days are gone, Mustafi playing in the Premier League,” Carragher told Sky Sports News. “I don’t think how he played (last night) has changed that. He’s just one of those defenders who makes mistakes and it affects other people.

“When you play with someone who makes you nervous, you can’t play your own game. You’re always worried he’s going to make a mistake. I think the quicker he’s gone, the better for everyone.”
Arsenal and Liverpool played out a 5-5 draw to take the game to penalties, where Jurgen Klopp’s side emerged triumphant as Dani Ceballos missed the only spot kick before Curtis Jones scored the decisive effort for a 5-4 shootout win.
Mustafi has been with the Emirates Stadium side since the summer of 2016, joining from Valencia in a £36.9million deal (Transfermarkt), and has made 120 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions.
