The Reds booked their place in round four of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win in the third-round replay.

Liverpool booked their place in round four of the FA Cup on Wednesday night with a hard-fought 1-0 win over League Two Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.

After being held to a hugely frustrating goalless draw at Anfield which added another fixture to their calendar, the Reds emerged victorious down south thanks to Lucas Leiva’s first goal in nearly seven years.

Though there were one or two scares, it should have been more comfortable for Jurgen Klopp’s men, but Divock Origi saw his late penalty saved.

Klopp made numerous changes, including selecting youngsters Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold in defence.

Giving their instant reactions to the game after the match, former Anfield heroes Jamie Carragher and John Aldridge hailed the young pair for their sterling performances.

For Liverpool it was little more than job done, but the narrow win sees them progress to round four of the FA Cup for the sixth year in a row.

The Reds will now host Championship side Wolves a week on Saturday.
