Jamie Carragher delivered a brutal dig at Arsenal by claiming that their current situation is summed up by the fact that they ‘won’t be worrying’ about Tottenham or Manchester United today instead they will be ‘worrying’ about Newcastle and Fulham.

The TV pundit made his comments about Arsenal whilst on commentary for Sky Sports on Saturday and minutes before their defeat at Goodison Park, which leaves them 15th in the Premier League table – 11 points behind Tottenham, who have a game in hand and nine points behind Manchester United, who have two games in hand.

Tottenham take on Champions League-chasing Leicester City today and could make Arsenal’s current situation even worse with a win, whilst those at Old Trafford, who were seemingly expected to compete with their rivals from North London this term, can also pile on the misery as they host Leeds.

Either way, Carragher shared his honest thoughts on Arsenal as they suffered yet another defeat under Mikel Arteta.

“The biggest indication as to where Arsenal are, at this moment, is they won’t be worrying about Manchester United tomorrow,” said Carragher. “They won’t be worrying about Tottenham tomorrow.

“They will be worrying about Newcastle and Fulham on their way home.”

When Arteta lifted the FA Cup in the summer at an empty Wembley Stadium, he would have felt that he had the whole Arsenal fan base on his side and the long-awaited process back to success was going to finally start.

But once again, Arsenal have come crashing down, and this time, it’s pretty spectacular because they’re not struggling to finish in the top-four anymore, they’ll be lucky if they avoid the bottom four.

Either way, the man that had so much intrigue around him as he sat next to Pep Guardiola for many years at the Etihad could find himself in a situation where his managerial career comes crashing down before it’s even got into second gear.
