West Ham captain Mark Noble has shared that his job was to ‘stop’ the run of Liverpool midfielder Naiby Keita which helped his side to equalise during their 1-1 draw against the Reds on Monday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were leading the Premier League encounter 1-0 when Noble appeared to block Keita from running to his marker – Michail Antonio – from a set-piece situation, which was neatly finished.

Jamie Carragher, who was in the Monday Night Football studio, then brilliantly responded to the ‘secret’ by saying, ‘why did you do it tonight?’ – his former side dropped valuable points in the race for the title.

This is how the conversation between the two unfolded, with Carragher telling the Hammers midfielder to do the same to second-placed Manchester City when they next meet.

“In all honesty, we have tried to do it all year, it just hasn’t been on,” Noble told MNF on Sky Sports PL on 04/02/2019. “So, why did you do it tonight?!,” Carragher responded passionately & jokingly.

Noble laughed to Carragher’s response then stated: “I am giving away all sorts of secrets here but it’s happened now and everyone is going to know. I think it just worked perfectly.

“Michail looked injured, to be honest. I looked at him two or three times to see if he wanted to do it. I don’t need to foul Keita there. I just need to stop his run.

“Just make sure you have one up your sleeve for Manchester City,” Carragher then told Noble.

Both goals on the night were scored in the first half [BBC Sport], with Sadio Mane opening the scoring after he spun his marker in the area – replays showed James Milner was offside in the build-up to the goal.

The home side then levelled when a well-worked set-piece routine saw Antonio peel off his market [Keita] to tuck away the equalise and open up the Premier League title race once more.

Liverpool are still top of the pack, but they are only three points ahead of Manchester City in the table, with third-placed Tottenham five points behind.

The Merseyside club will entertain Bournemouth at the weekend, with City having the chance to leapfrog them in the table when they face Everton on Wednesday night.
