Barjonas struggled on loan at Bury from Rangers during the first half of the season.

Jamie Barjonas has returned to Rangers this month after his loan spell with English League Two side Bury expired, without the two sides deciding to renew the temporary move – but Barjonas cannot expect to remain at Ibrox for too long.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who turns 20 later this month, struggled to break into Bury’s side and managed just eight appearances in all competitions throughout the entire first half of the campaign.

Indeed, Barjonas failed to find the back of the net in the matches he did play, creating only one goal in that time. Now, he returns to Rangers where he still has a contract until May 2020.

But the Scotland Under-19 international cannot expect to remain at Ibrox until the end of the month, with the chances of Barjonas breaking into the first team second to zero.

The Teddy Bears are closing in on the signing of Steven Davis from Southampton which sees the Northern Ireland veteran return to the club almost seven years after leaving.

The Gers also boast plenty of other box-to-box midfielders in the squad, including the likes of Lassana Coulibaly, Ryan Jack, Jordan Rossiter, Graham Dorrans and Scott Arfield.

There is simply no chance that Barjonas is going to break into the first team this month, and his lack of performances at Bury will certainly not help that. The Scot needs to go on loan once again to show Steven Gerrard he has what it takes.

Perhaps a move to a Scottish Premiership or Championship side would do the trick for Barjonas, who has played nine times for the Gers’ senior side. Though he has just returned, Barjonas will surely not be unpacking his bags.
