Luka Doncic played a key role in the LA Lakers’ 121-111 win over the Charlotte Hornets.

The Hornets started well, taking an early lead and holding a 40-36 advantage after the first quarter. Miles Bridges was active from the start and finished with 34 points.

But as the game went on, the Lakers settled in and took control after half-time, with Rui Hachimura adding 21 points to support Doncic’s effort.

Doncic was a big part of the Lakers’ victory, putting up 38 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. He is now averaging 37 points per game this season.

After the win, former Laker James Worthy had plenty of praise for the Slovenian star. Worthy even went as far as comparing him to some of the team’s most iconic players.

Speaking to Spectrum after the game, he said: “The Lakers have always landed these great players – Magic [Johnson], Kobe [Bryant] – we’ve always been able to find these players that come to Los Angeles.”

“Luka is no exception. He’s a phenomenal modern day great player with talent you won’t find in any other player.

“And when he brings it like he does, it is hard to compete against him because he does so many things, scores, assists, and they really needed that tonight.

“Just having him on the floor, sometimes you don’t really need him to score as much, having him on the floor is a threat.

“The rhythm of the game tonight, the way he controlled it, just a joy to watch him.”

Derek Fisher echoes James Worthy verdict on Doncic

Ex-Lakers guard Derek Fisher echoed the sentiment, even comparing Doncic to a video game character with how effortless he made things look.

Fisher added: “Sometimes Luka looks like a 2K video game player… Sometimes it doesn’t look real.”

Doncic is already in the MVP conversation this year, though injuries and missed games could play a role as the season goes on.

The Lakers have started well at 8-3 and are fourth in the Western Conference, with LeBron James still yet to make his return from injury.
