Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino have similar playing philosophies.

Southampton star James Ward-Prowse spoke exclusively to the Times, and highlighted how similar Ralph Hasenhüttl and Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino are in the way that they both go about their work.

The Austrian has made a real impact at St Mary’s, since taking over on December 5th, guiding his Saints side away from the bottom three in the process.

Hasenhüttl is well-renowned for his high intensity pressing philosophy – something that Spurs boss Pochettino has also made his name through.

And Ward-Prowse told the Times how similar the two managers are, sharing how the Southampton and Tottenham managers both like their teams to press high when they don’t have the ball:

Mauricio Pochettino manager

“For a few of us who were here [under Pochettino] you can see the similarities. The main one is how they play without the ball. They want to press high, they want to dominate the game. You can tell already they have [the same] passion and love for what they do. They make you feel happy as a player.”

Tottenham are obviously a long way ahead of Southampton in regards to their evolution as a football team, and Hasenhüttl has a lot of work to so at St Mary’s, if he is to get his side playing even close to the level of the north London outfit.
