Rangers opened the season with a comfortable 3-0 win over Livingston – and it may be bold of James Tavernier to claim an assist for the second goal.
The Gers went into the new campaign as reigning champions, so there was a real party atmosphere at Ibrox with fans back in the stadium.
Ianis Hagi put Rangers in front in the first half, showing great composure to sit a number of Livingston defenders down before firing into the net.
Scott Wright hit the second before Kemar Roofe wrapped up the victory, giving Rangers a perfect start to the season – and Celtic’s defeat at Hearts only made the day even better.
Ex-Rangers ace Josh Windass has now been poking fun at former teammate Tavernier having seen a clip of Wright’s goal for Rangers.
Wright’s finish was superb, and it came after Tavernier went up for a header and seemingly just about managed to nudge the ball on to Wright for the goal.
Windass joked that Tavernier surely can’t be claiming an assist for that, having racked up 16 assists last season.
Tavernier responded with just five words, stating that it was ‘one million percent’ his assist and ‘great awareness’ to find Wright – and it has indeed gone down as a Tavernier assist even if Windass thinks it was a little fortuitous.
