Rangers captain James Tavernier has told Rangers TV that he was impressed with the performance of Cedric Itten on Sunday.
The Gers headed away to Kilmarnock on Sunday afternoon, which has been a tricky game for Steven Gerrard’s men in recent years.
Rangers weren’t exactly at their best, but did claim a 1-0 win as Tavernier buried a first-half penalty for the Gers at Rugby Park.
A second goal didn’t arrive, but Rangers saw out the game well and kept yet another clean sheet to move nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Gerrard made a surprise decision with his line-up, as he handed a start to summer signing Cedric Itten – but not as a centre forward.
The Swiss target man operated on the right of the Rangers front three, and produced a battling display, with his hold-up play impressing.

Now, Tavernier has suggested that Itten was ‘brilliant’ against Killie, praising him for being a great professional whilst seeing fellow strikers Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos hit the headlines recently.
Tavernier added that Itten did himself proud after working ‘really hard’ in training, with the summer signing from St Gallen earning huge praise.
“Cedric did a brilliant job for us today,” said Tavernier. “He’s been on the sidelines watching, he’s seen Kemar get the headlines, Alfredo get headlines, and he’s a credit to himself, he’s a great professional. He’s been working really hard on the training pitch, he was asked to come into the team today, and he did himself proud and did the team proud,” he added.
