Glasgow Rangers defender James Tavernier wants to stay at Ibrox, and the Gers should start negotiations over a new deal.

Rangers defender James Tavernier has told STV that he is happy at the Ibrox club.
The 26-year-old former Newcastle United right-back has also suggested that he is open to signing a new contract with the Gers.
Tavernier moved to Rangers in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £200,000 and when Mark Warburton was the Gers manager.
The defender was linked with moves away from Ibrox in the January transfer window, with The Daily Mail reporting of Sunderland and Reading’s interest in him.

When asked if he wants to prolong his time at Rangers, Tavernier told STV: “Definitely, I am enjoying my football here. I want to win trophies at this club, it does feel like unfinished business.
“This club is known for winning trophies, that’s why I came here. I want to win trophies. My aim is to stay.”

Time for Rangers to act?
Tavernier is one of the best right-backs in Scotland, and the performances of the 26-year-old so far this season have been very encouraging.
Although the defender’s current contract runs until the end of the 2018-19 season, according to Transfermarkt.com, it would make sense for Rangers to start negotiations from now on.
If the former Newcastle right-back continues to play the the way he is doing right now, then Rangers could get bids from clubs in England in the summer of 2018, and it is important for the Gers to tie down the defender on a long-term deal.
