Rangers and Celtic will meet for the first Old Firm fixture of the new season at the start of September.

James Tavernier has made it clear that Rangers must add ‘consistency’ to their game and sort out their ‘discipline’ if they are to be in a ‘better place’ in terms of their title challenge with Celtic.
Rangers are days away from kicking off the new Scottish Premiership campaign against Kilmarnock, with Celtic hosting St Johnstone on home soil.
Despite a strong first half of the campaign, Celtic ended up winning the title in a pretty comfortable fashion last term, as Neil Lennon will be now searching for nine-in-a-row.
Speaking to Sky Sports News (29/07/2019 at 6:40 pm), Tavernier believes if Rangers can iron out a number of problems then they will be a dangerous outfit to deal with.
“I think last season a lot of it was down to consistency,” Tavernier told Sky Sports News. “That hindered us in many ways.
“Also discipline. A few of the boys got suspensions, which meant they weren’t available for selection for certain games. We dropped points when we shouldn’t have. If we address that this season then we’ll be in a better place.”

Steven Gerrard’s side did start pre-season earlier than most because of European commitments as they will be sharper than most when the season kicks off.
Many expect the title challenge between Rangers and Celtic to be a lot closer ahead of the new season, with the Bhoys starting the new season without Brendan Rodgers, who played a huge part in their dominance over these last few years.
It is not long before the summer transfer window shuts, as both Rangers and Celtic will be keen to iron out a few deals. The decisions that are made and the business the duo do before the window slams shut could play a pivotal part in who becomes Scottish Premiership champion at the end of the campaign.
