Glasgow Rangers defender James Tavernier scored his sixth goal of the season in the Ibrox side’s latest win.

The right-back sealed the Gers’ three points at Firhill as he scored a stunning second in the second-half to follow Josh Windass’ opener. The defender found the back of the net from outside the box with a thumping effort which curled into the roof of the net.

The goal takes Tavernier’s tally to six for the campaign, nine away from the staggering total he achieved during his first season at Ibrox. And when asked if that total was in reach once again, the 26-year-old sounded quietly positive that it should not be ruled out.
The end of Tavernier’s answer is perhaps just as interesting in some ways as it comes just a few days after he gave away the penalty that allowed Hibernian to secure the three points at Ibrox at the weekend, so it is no surprise that he is pleased to have helped the side keep the ball out of the net against Partick.

While it is not his primary job, it is undoubtedly a major boost for Rangers to have Tavernier regularly chipping in with goals as it suggests to opponents that they have even more players to worry about when the Gers are attacking them.
And while 15 goals may be an ambitious target at this stage, it may not be a surprise if it looks slightly more achievable by the end of the week with the Scottish Cup tie with League One side Ayr on the horizon.
