Mark Warburton’s side beat Motherwell 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
James Tavernier has admitted to Rangers’ official website that they were lucky in the first half against Motherwell.
Mark Warburton’s side officially started their season on Saturday afternoon as they took on Motherwell in the reinvented Scottish League Cup.
It was a tight affair between the two sides, but Rangers eventually came out victorious with Tavernier opening the scoring just after half time and Martyn Waghorn adding another to seal a 2-0 victory.
It was an impressive start to the season for the Gers, but Tavernier has admitted that his side were lucky in the first half of the game.
“To come to Motherwell and put in a great performance from the team, looking really strong, is a great start to the season,” he told rangers.co.uk.
“We’ve been quite lucky in the first half with them not finishing their chances, but in the second half we created a lot of chances which we should have put away.”
Rangers will now be hoping that they can build on this positive performance with a busy week ahead of them.
Much is expected of them this season, with their fans hoping to see them challenge Celtic for the title in their first year back in the top tier.
To do so they will need their raft of summer signings so far to prove they have been smart acquisitions. But this game showed some of the older faces still have a role to play too and they will be keen to continue making their mark as they did against Motherwell.
