Tim Sherwood has said on Sky Sports News (1:11pm, December 11, 2021) that West Ham United would get James Tarkowski ahead of Newcastle United.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager believes that Burnley would not sell Tarkowski to fellow relegation candidates Newcastle in the January transfer window.
Sherwood believes that a move for the 29-year-old defender to West Ham is more realistic.
Newcastle and West Ham interest in James Tarkowski
The Mirror reported earlier this month that Newcastle are keen on signing Tarkowski in the January transfer window.
The London Evening Standard claimed in November that West Ham want to secure the services of the England international centre-back.
Tim Sherwood’s verdict
Sherwood said: “Tarkowski is the man everyone is going to want. Now, would you sell to Newcastle? Of course you wouldn’t if you are Burnley because you are in a dogfight with them. You would sell to West Ham, and I think that is a realistic target.”

What next for Tarkowski?
Tarkowski is out of contract at Burnley at the end of the season.
So, we can understand why Newcastle and West Ham are keen on the 29-year-old.
However, we do not think that Burnley will sell Tarkowski in the January transfer window.
After all, Sean Dyche’s side are in real danger of getting relegated.
If Burnley do sell, then it is hard to see them sell Tarkowski to Newcastle.
Newcastle are also in real trouble of getting relegated.
In our opinion, a transfer to Premier League top-four-chasing West Ham is more likely.
