Tim Sherwood has said on Sky Sports News (12:32pm, August 21, 2021) that Everton attacking midfielder James Rodriguez is not that good a player that he will go back to Real Madrid.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager has said that although James is a good player, Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti is not going to take him back to the Spanish giants.
Ancelotti worked with the Colombia international attacking midfielder at Madrid, Bayern Munich and Everton.
The Italian tactician left the Toffees for Madrid earlier this summer.
Former Tottenham Hotspur central defender Michael Dawson has criticised James for reportedly saying that he did not know which team Everton were playing this past weekend.
Sherwood said on Sky Sports News (12:32pm, August 21, 2021): “He is a good player, but he is not that good. He can’t go back to Real Madrid. He ain’t that good.”
Dawson said on Sky Sports News (12:32pm, August 21, 2021): “It’s ridiculous. A player saying that.”
What next for James Rodriguez?
James, who can also play as a winger, is reportedly not in the plans of Everton manager Rafael Benitez.
The 30-year-old joined the Toffees only last summer and had injury problems.
James showed his quality in flashes and especially in the opening games.
The Colombian scored six goals and gave four assists in 21 Premier League starts for Everton last season.
It will be interesting to see what happens with James in the final few days of the summer transfer window.
