Writing in his Q&A session on The Athletic, James Pearce has shared what he knows about Liverpool’s reported move for Ismaila Sarr last month.
The Senegal international’s agent has this week claimed that terms were agreed with the player to move to Anfield last month, but that a £35m price tag put the Reds off the idea.
As interesting as this story is, Pearce has looked into this tale, and he’s debunked it, claiming that it isn’t true.
“I checked that out and was told that it wasn’t true. Sarr was a target last summer but not in January.”
“There’s no way LFC were in the market for an attacker last month. It was all about CB reinforcements and the deals that got done show how money was tight. Buying an attacker for £35m/£40m in January was never considered.
“Whether LFC go back in for Sarr in the summer I don’t know. Jota was bought instead of him as LFC felt in the end he provided better value.”
Who would have thought that an agent wouldn’t tell the whole truth about a transfer story involving their player?
To be fair to Sarr’s agent, Liverpool seemingly have had an interest in him in the summer, and drumming up stories about him going to the Reds will keep him in the public eye.
Unfortuantely, it seems as though there wasn’t much to his comments last week, and Liverpool weren’t actually keen to bring him in last month.
However, as Pearce says, it remains to be seen whether or not the Anfield outfit re-ignite their interest in Sarr this summer.
