Murphy only made one first team appearance for Sheffield Wednesday.
Sheffield Wednesday midfielder James Murphy has left the Owls to sign for Los Angeles FC.
The move was confirmed by both LAFC and Murphy in the early hours of Saturday on social media.
Murphy, who made only one first team appearance for Wednesday, in a League Cup defeat against Cambridge United in August 2016, wrote on Instagram: “Happy to finally announce I’ve signed for @lafc ! Proud to be Black & Gold and can’t wait to play in front of the supporters!”
The 20-year-old is thought to have been training with LAFC ahead of their inaugural Major League Soccer campaign.
And he becomes the latest player to sign up for the side managed by ex-Swansea City boss Bob Bradley, which already includes former Premier League players Carlos Vela [Arsenal] and Benny Feilhaber [Derby County].
New Jersey born Murphy, who has Under-20 caps for the United States, moved to Sheffield Wednesday two years ago and helped their Under-23s to win the Professional Development League last season.
The Owls have already promoted several members of that successful side – notably Jordan Thorniley and Sean Clare.
