James Milner has reacted on Twitter as Liverpool beat former club Leeds United on Saturday.

Leeds’ first Premier League game since 2004 ended in heartbreak last night as Mo Salah slotted home a late penalty to seal a 4-3 victory for the champions at Anfield.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side had come from behind on three occasions and looked set to return to West Yorkshire with an exceptional point, only for Salah, who completed his hat-trick, to dash that hope.

Milner began his career with the Elland Road outfit, whom he left 16 years ago, and the Premier League title winner has found a creative way to praise his current Liverpool team-mates, while also giving a nod of appreciation to his boyhood club.

It’s a very classy post-match tweet from a very classy player – who never made it off the bench – and here’s how some Leeds fans responded to their former son on social media.

Will Leeds do well, as Milner predicts? More than likely, yes.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, the Whites are a serious team, evident by the fact that Liverpool didn’t look one bit like the Premier League champions that they are.

And if United can replicate this standard on a regular basis throughout the 2020-21 campaign then there’s no chance of relegation.
