James Milner joked on Instagram that his ‘touch’ during pre-season training with Liverpool didn’t have ‘as much bounce’ as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s hair.

The Liverpool man seemed in a pretty jovial mood as Jurgen Klopp’s side prepare for yet another gruelling campaign following their second-placed finished in the league last time out.

Here is Milner’s message to his teammate Oxlade-Chamberlain, as posted on his personal Instagram account:

Some of Liverpool’s players returned to pre-season training on Saturday, with the likes of Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino, to name a few, on international duty and given an extended break.

Players such as Salah and Mane were competing in the Africa Cup of Nations, whilst the likes of Firmino and Allison Becker were taking part in the Copa America, which incidentally, Brazil won.

Nonetheless, when they return they will be eager to push for that Premier League title, with Oxlade-Chamberlain’s presence also set to provide Klopp with that X-Factor he was missing last season.

The Reds needed some more attacking bite from the middle of the park, but with the Ox returning from his long-term injury, he wasn’t able to contribute as much as he would have liked.

But the Southampton academy product will get his chance this season because he is injury free at the start of pre-season, as he will be pushing for a starting birth in Klopp’s midfield.

Milner will be another player who will provide Klopp with much-needed quality. His ability to play in various positions, and do the job required is absolutely valuable for a team pushing for the title.
