Speaking on the We Are Liverpool Podcast, James Milner has been discussing the biggest regrets of his lengthy playing career.
Milner has been there and done it all during his 20-year career. He’s tasted the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, but there are two moments that stick out to him as his biggest regrets.
One of those is being relegated with his boyhood club, Leeds United, while the other involved his time at Liverpool.
The midfielder says that being unable to celebrate Liverpool’s 2020 Premier League win with the fans is up there with the biggest regrets of his career.

Milner regrets title win
The midfielder spoke about not being able to celebrate in front of his fans.
“I’ve had this question before what is your biggest regret or low of your career. Being relegated with Leeds is one, and not celebrating that league title with Liverpool is the other. It does still hurt 100 per cent,” Milner said.
“That’s why the parade was so important. Everyone knew we wanted the league title and how long the Premier League had been going and we’d never done it. It was a dream when I came here to win the league. To do it, with how much the fans wanted to do it, to not be together. And then the first game of next season was Liverpool vs Leeds, Leeds hadn’t been in the Premier League for 17 years. Imagine that atmosphere and there was no one there.”
Painful
It is incredibly painful that Liverpool didn’t get to clinch that title in front of their fans. After all, they were unbelievable that season.
However, it is even worse for a player like Milner who may never get that chance again.
Indeed, while the likes of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson will all get more bites at the cherry, Milner turns 37 next week, his career is winding down.
The sad reality is that Milner may never get to celebrate a Premier League title win in front of a packed-out Anfield.
