Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that James Milner played well against Manchester City at Anfield last night, as quoted on BBC Sport.

What’s the story?

Liverpool played out a 2-2 draw with City at Anfield in the Premier League last night.

Milner started the match at right-back in the absence of the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The former Newcastle United and Leeds United star was taken off in the 78th minute.

Just minutes before the substitution, Milner brought down Bernardo Silva and escaped a potential second yellow card.

Milner, 35, was already on a yellow, and there have been suggestions that he was lucky not to be sent off.

Jurgen Klopp’s verdict

Liverpool manager Klopp has said that Milner played well in the first half.

BBC Sport quotes Klopp as saying: “Pep got a little bit outraged over that. I didn’t see but I saw Pep’s reaction obviously. I didn’t know exactly why he did that.

“Milly [Milner] did incredibly well first half and it is not easy to defend these guys.”

How did James Milner play?

Klopp may think that Milner played well, but you would find it hard to find anyone who agrees with him.

Phil Foden was superb down that flank and pushed Milner back and terrorised him.

Foden went past Milner time and time again.

The right-back was also left exposed for the first City goal.
