The midfielder has found himself playing left back for Liverpool this season.
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp and James Milner
Liverpool’s James Milner has admitted to the Times he was fearing for his Reds future when Jurgen Klopp asked him to play fullback.
The midfielder moved to Anfield last year in a free transfer from Manchester City, with much being made of his desire to play in central midfield.
He was granted that wish by then manager Brendan Rodgers up until his sacking in October last year.
Since then, the former England international has been used in a number of positions by Jurgen Klopp, who has taken full advantage of Milner’s versatility.
This season has seen him used as a left back in place of Alberto Moreno, who has failed to prove his worth under the former Borussia Dortmund boss.
It is a position change that surprised many and Milner admits he feared for his future at the club before being asked to make the switch.
“Obviously it was pre-season, the manager has not been there too long… there were a million and one things in my head,” he told the Times.
“You think about everything and, ‘Does he not want me?’ was one. And then he said, ‘Would you be willing to cover the full-back positions?’”

Klopp will be praying that Milner can continue to impress at left-back for the remainder of the season.
The midfielder has not looked out of place there so far and it has not hurt their chances, with the Reds currently top of the Premier League table.
Indeed, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool ever look to replace him in the role given the success he has enjoyed so far.
