Rangers already have Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty up front.

James McFadden has told Sky Sports that Rangers need to sign a striker due to Alfredo Morelos’ ill-discipline and only Kyle Lafferty as back-up – completely disregarding loanee Umar Sadiq.

Morelos, 22, scored his 16th goal of the season in his 26th game, but picked up his 11th yellow card of the season which will see him banned for December 9’s clash against Dundee.

The Colombian striker had come on in the second half, coming on for Northern Ireland international Kyle Lafferty who failed to provide Rangers with the cutting edge. Replacing him on the hour mark, Morelos scored 20 minutes later.

Scotland assistant McFadden reckons Rangers need a striker as back-up to Lafferty and Morelos, but his comments completely snubbed AS Roma loanee Sadiq with the colossal striker linked with a return to Italy in January.

“It’s a difficult one because at crucial points in the season, he’s not available,” McFadden said of Morelos. “They need to sort that out. His discipline is poor. He continues to let himself and his teammates down.

“I think they need to find someone to help. Lafferty hasn’t been in the team much, he can be a big player. They need someone. As we witnessed in the semi-final, they don’t have much else. They have to strengthen and bring a striker in.”

Lafferty, 31, has scored three goals in 12 appearances but has had to contend with the odd niggle here and there since joining the club from Hearts. Sadiq, meanwhile, has managed just one start and been frozen out since.

The lanky striker, 21, will be remember for rounding Aberdeen goalkeeper Joe Lewis before opting to dive rather than the ball into an empty net, sparking huge criticism from Rangers fans and Steven Gerrard himself.

McFadden’s comments completely dismiss Sadiq’s chances of breaking back into the team, and instead reckons signing a new forward is a better option.
