Everton are on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Sam Allardyce.

Marco Silva, Manager of Watford looks on prior to the Premier League match between Manchester City and Watford at Etihad Stadium on January 2, 2018 in Manchester, England.

Former Everton favourite James McFadden has told Sky Sports that his old side should avoid appointing Marco Silva as he does not believe the Portuguese boss will bring back the excitement at Goodison Park.

Owner Farhad Moshiri and the rest of the Toffees board are on the lookout for a new manager this summer after sacking former England boss Sam Allardyce earlier in this month, despite a decent eighth-placed finish.

The Telegraph claimed last week that Everton had opened talks with former Watford and Hull boss Silva, after being linked to the role following Ronald Koeman’s sacking earlier in the season.

Sam Allardyce, Manager of Everton looks on during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Everton at London Stadium on May 13, 2018 in London, England.

The 40-year-old manager is currently out of work after the Hornets decided to axe the former Olympiakos boss and replace him with Javi Gracia. But McFadden remains unsure.

“He started well at Hull I think, maybe turned them round but they still got relegated. He started well at Watford – the speculation kind of affected him I think and in the end, he lost his job,” McFadden said.

“At the time when they went for him initially, it looked like a good appointment, at the minute I’m not totally convinced. He has done a good job where he’s been… but the Everton fans need someone who will bring the excitement back to Goodison.”

Scotland assistant coach James McFadden is seen prior to the Vauxhall International Challenge match between Scotland and Costa Rica at Hampden Park on March 23, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Silva is the outright favourite to replace Allardyce, while former boss David Moyes is also in the mix following his sacking from West Ham. Paulo Fonseca, Unai Emery and Louis van Gaal are also in the running.

It remains to be seen who Everton will appoint this summer, but whoever is given the role has an expectant fanbase expecting the Toffees to be pushing for the top six.
