Boyata has been branded a disgrace by Chris Sutton recently after reportedly refusing to play for Celtic.
Scotland assistant manager James McFadden has told BBC Sport’s Sportscene Extra that he believes Celtic should sell Dedryck Boyata after reportedly rejecting the chance to sign a new deal.
The Scottish Sun claim 27-year-old Boyata has rejected potential negotiations to Celtic despite entering the final 12 months of his contract with Brendan Rodgers’ side. It is believed that he is frustrated that he was not allowed to talk to Fulham.
The west London-based side tabled a £9million offer for him earlier this month, and has since attracted interest from Spanish side Seville and Italian outfit Lazio, according to the Daily Record.
It is claimed that Boyata has now chosen not to join up with Celtic as they prepare to face AEK Athens in the Champions League on Tuesday night, claiming injury. McFadden believes he should be sold.
“I would sell him,” McFadden said. “Until Rodgers came in, Boyata’s Celtic career was going nowhere and he has totally transformed him. He had a decent couple of games at the World Cup and off the back of that I would sell him and reinvest the money.”
Boyata’s actions have even seen Hoops icon Chris Sutton come out on Twitter and label the former Manchester City defender as a “disgrace”, ahead of Tuesday night’s clash.
The powerhouse defender is currently earning £14,000 a week at Celtic according to the Daily Star, which equates to £730,000 a year. Celtic desperately need a centre-back anyway, with doubts arising over the performances of Jack Hendry and Jozo Simunovic.
